Appliance Technical Institute of Canada offers Bursaries to laid off Sears Workers

Date: October 24, 2019

At the beginning of November 2013 Sears Canada announced that it would be cutting 712 appliance service and repair jobs across Canada.

Canadian employees of Sears were affected by this movement which was fully implemented in 2014. Appliance Technical Institute of Canada in Mississauga, ON will be stepping up to provide assistance to those being displaced by offering a $1500 bursary towards a diploma program of his/her choice. They will have a chance to be fully re-trained in the Appliance Service Technician Diploma program which also provides them with TSSA Gas Technician 3 and 2b Licenses.

The job cuts at Sears, along with other announced retail chain store closures such as HMV, Danier, Jacob, Smart Set, and others, has impacted thousands of Canadians. Appliance Technical Institute of Canada recognizes this impact and is determined to continue to provide support to individuals who require job-retraining.

“As a career college Appliance Technical Institute of Canada will provide training to get laid-off employees back into the workforce,” says Andrey Czupiel, the CEO of Appliance Technical Institute of Canada. “Our bursary is a financial contribution to help people explore their career options.”

Appliance Technical Institute of Canada is encouraging retail employees to visit AT Institute and atinstitute.ca to access the bursary. The bursary is applicable at the AT Institute Mississauga Campus. Simply print out the bursary and come to our location. The bursary will help alleviate some of the stress for retail and Sears workers who have found themselves out of work and are looking at career options. Sears repair technicians and retail workers are encouraged to contact the Mississauga campus and
